Adaptive Signal Control

Tired of increased traffic? Improvements are underway!

Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT)

Adaptive signals change traffic signal "green time" based on current traffic conditions. Using sensors, adaptive signals measure the traffic conditions of vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians to make changes based on real-time data.

We interconnect traffic signals and send video and information back to our Traffic Management Center (TMC). From the TMC, we can view the intersection and make real-time adjustments to the signal timing. We currently have 15 signals out of 36 connected to our TMC. Next, we want to install software to automatically adapt the signal timing to real-time traffic conditions.

Benefits of ASCT

  • Improve and analyze roadway performance
  • Adjust to real-time traffic demand
  • Reduce stops, delays, and travel time
  • Minimize vehicle emissions
  • Reduce signal timing engineering efforts and prolong the effectiveness
  • Program and maintain with ease
  • Safety
