Police Employment Opportunities
The City of Casa Grande is a growing community of over 50,000 residents located approximately 30 miles south of the Phoenix Metropolitan area and 60 miles north of Tucson. Casa Grande offers a rural lifestyle with the amenities of a large city only a 30-minute drive away. Average housing costs are significantly less than the Phoenix / Chandler area.
The Casa Grande Police Department consists of 90 Sworn Officers and offers a wide variety of assignments that include:

- Academy Recruit salary: $48,005.15
- Police Officer salary range: $56,380.69 to $77,716.29

Minimum Standards for Appointment
- Be a United States citizen.
- Be at least 21 years of age. An individual may attend an academy if the individual will be 21 years of age before graduating.
- Have a diploma from a high school recognized by the department of education of the jurisdiction in which the diploma is issued, have successfully completed a General Education Development (G.E.D.) examination, or have a degree from an institution of higher education accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- An individual must successfully pass a background investigation before attending an academy.
- Undergo a medical examination that meets the standards of R13-4-107 within one year before appointment. An agency may make a conditional offer of appointment before the medical examination. If the medical examination is conducted more than 180 days before the appointment, the individual shall submit a written statement indicating that the individual's medical condition has not changed since the examination.
- Not have been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Arizona.
- Not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
- Not have been previously denied certified status, have certified status revoked, or have current certified status suspended, or have voluntarily surrendered certified status in lieu of possible disciplinary action in this or any other state if the reason for denial, revocation, suspension, or possible disciplinary action was or would be a violation of R13-4-109(A) if committed in Arizona.
- Not have illegally possessed, produced, cultivated, or transported marijuana for sale or sold marijuana.
- Not have illegally possessed or used marijuana for any purpose within the past two years.
- Not have ever illegally possessed or used marijuana while employed or appointed as a peace officer.
- Not have illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale a dangerous drug or narcotic.
- Not have illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic, other than marijuana, for any purpose within the past seven years.
- Not have ever illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic other than for experimentation.
- Not have ever illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic while employed or appointed as a peace officer.
- Not have a pattern of abuse of prescription medication.
- Undergo a polygraph examination that meets the requirements of R13-4-106, unless prohibited by law.
- Not have been convicted of or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with a frequency within the past three years that indicate a disrespect for traffic laws or a disregard for the safety of others on the highway.
- Read the code of ethics in subsection (E) and affirm by signature the individual understands and agrees to abide by the code.
Hiring Process
- The first stage in the hiring process is to apply for employment.
- If there is no police officer job listing then the City is not currently hiring police officers. To be added to our mailing list and to receive a notification when the positions do open, fill out a job interest card.
- Once an applicant has applied the application will be reviewed to ensure minimum qualifications for appointment as a peace officer are met. If approved, the applicant will be invited to the written test.
Written Test
The City of Casa Grande uses National Testing Network to complete our entry-level exam. You may take a Practice Test.
Physical Agility
Applicants who pass the written test will be invited to the Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT). The POPAT consists of:
- 99-Yard Obstacle Course - Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb height obstacles, and a 34-inch high obstacle that must be vaulted.
- Body Drag - Lift and drag 165-pound, lifelike dummy 32 feet.
- Chain-Link Fence - Run five yards to a six-foot, chain-link fence, climb over fence, continue running another 25 yards.
- Solid Fence Climb - Run five yards to a six-foot solid fence, climb over fence, continue running another 25 yards.
- 500-Yard Run - Run 500 yards (equivalent to one lap plus 60 yards of a standard running track).
Oral Board
Applicants who pass the physical agility test will be invited to the oral board.
Background Interview
Applicants who pass the physical agility test will be invited to meet with a background investigator who conducts an in-person review of the applicant's AZPOST background packet and Casa Grande Police Department Background Interview Questionnaire.
Command Staff Interview
Qualified applicants will be invited to the Command Staff Interview where they will have the opportunity to meet the Chief of Police, Deputy Chiefs, and Lieutenants.
Background Investigation
Qualified applicants' background will then be investigated and includes the applicant taking a polygraph examination.
Medical Examination
Qualified applicants will undergo a complete medical examination by a licensed physician at the cost of the City of Casa Grande.
Psychological Test
Qualified applicants will take a written psychological test and meet with a licensed psychologist.
