TRANSPORTATION DRIVER (REVISED) TRANSPORTATION DRIVER (REVISED)

Ideal candidate operates 18 passenger mini bus or van to transport senior citizens to and from the Dorothy Powell Senior Center for activities held at and/or organized through the center and to various appointments and/or errands including but not limited to doctor's visits, hair appointments, banks, and shopping. Candidate is able to effectively develop working relationships with other personnel, clients and the public and is interested in working with the elderly and disabled individuals.

SALARY - $7.80/HR; 30 hrs wk; M-F 8:30-2:30; pro-rated leave benefits

PLEASE NOTE: This position is grant-funded. Continuance of this position is dependent upon funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to effectively develop working relationships with other personnel, clients and the public
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be interested in working with the elderly and disabled individuals
  • Must be in possession of a valid Arizona Operators driver’s license
  • Must be willing to obtain a valid Arizona CDL (continuance of employment dependent upon successful completion of CDL certification)
  • Must possess a satisfactory driving record
  • Experience driving a bus or van preferred
  • Ability to speak Spanish is desired

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sets transportation schedule with Site Manager and documents passenger trips by collecting signatures.
  • Assists individuals in safely getting in and out of the vehicle and secures wheelchairs for transport.
  • Ensures that all passengers wear safety restraints while in the vehicle.
  • Performs safety inspections of the vehicles, general maintenance and cleanliness of program vehicle and equipment.
  • Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, passenger transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management. Submits all written documentation in a timely manner as requested.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls concerning transportation services and takes messages as needed.
  • Answers questions regarding programs or schedules coordinated through the Senior Center, routes callers/persons to the appropriate person within the Center, and refers callers to an appropriate agency for assistance if needed. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work flexible hours with evening, weekend and holiday work required (if needed)
  • Have the following: strong leadership skills, ability to resolve conflict in a professional manner, ability to work in a team atmosphere.
