HOMEOWNER SELF-HELP HOUSING PROGRAM & INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS

Home ownership opportunities are available to low and moderate income families (at or below 80% of median income) using the Sweat Equity method. A method whereby a number of families, working as a group contribute 65% of the labor needed to build their homes. This labor contribution reduces the amount of the loan financed by USDA, Rural Development. An interest subsidy is available for payment affordability and no down payment is required.

This is an example of underutilized land-locked parcels in an older neighborhood that were subdivided and improved using State "Action Zone" funds. Improvements included streets, utilities and park amenities and 16 lots.

15 homes were constructed by our Self-Help program participants who contribute 65% of the labor to build their homes. This labor contribution provides 25% in total cost savings while teaching program participants valuable construction skills.

One lot was donated to a Faith Based local Non-profit agency to build a Neighborhood Center

Funding partners: State of AZ. (SHF & CDBG) USDA, Rural Development
