CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Kent Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES – MARCH 7, 2012

Chairperson Taylor noted an error in the minutes. The trail build that Anita Avila referred to was for the March trail build and not the April trail build. Donna McBride made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected. Member Kent Van Vleet seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.


NEW BUSINESS

Pinal County Veteran’s Memorial Update

Toms Ramsdell provided and reviewed a preliminary site plan for a Pinal County Veteran’s Memorial near the main entrance of the Paul Mason Sportplex at Ed Hooper Park. It would have burms installed, a touch screen of individual veterans of Pinal County for people to search and

would be built in 5-6 phases. Picnic tables could be available along with a Kiosk. It would also be a great use for ceremonies, memorial services and to provide a history of veterans.

Aquatics Update

Caryl Chase provided an update on the Aquatics summer job recruitment. Interviews begin Friday, April 6 and have over 50 applications.

Report on AZDEMA

Mr. Schwind reported he paid a visit to AZDEMA to try and move along a request for a use agreement or special permit process along to gain access on military property to better map some GPS coordinates to help aid in emergencies. He was informed that he would be contacted on an update and had yet to hear from AZDEMA.

Report on Community Wide Clean-up

Mr. Schwind reported the community wide spring clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 and is recruiting volunteers for the City’s mile.

REPORTS BY OFFICERS

Report from Recreation Division

Caryl Chase provided a report on events and programs held in March. Some of which being the spring baseball camp, Catfish Rodeo, Senior Prom, a teen building workshop held at Len Colla Recreation Center and we will be hosting the Sectional for Pitch, Hit and Run. Upcoming will be recruitment for summer recreation and aquatics positions and the summer brochure will be available April 16.

Report from Park Maintenance Division

Rod Wood reported crews are working on downtown street improvements; inspecting and testing 30 backflows; completed 13,000 ft. of trails and added 1,000 ft. to an existing trail at Casa Grande Mountain Park with Americorp Fire Seven team.

The Americorp Fire Seven team provided a Power Point presentation of what they have completed thus far which has been about 4,634 ft not including the community build and each member introduced and told a little bit about themselves.
