911 Information After all these years we still have many people who call 911 to ask for weather information or the correct time, where the fireworks displays will be or often to ask "what's the non-emergency number? How would you like to have your emergency request for an ambulance delayed because the dispatcher was busy giving another caller information that is easily available in any phone book or from directory assistance? Many people mistakingly call 911 thinking the dispatcher can transfer them to a non-emergency number. Because the 911 phone trunks are completely different from the normal phone lines we can not do this or it would keep that 911 line tied up for the entire time the person is on the non-emergency line! If you accidentally call 911 by mistake: Stay on the line and let the dispatcher know what happened. We have no way of knowing if you dialed the wrong number or if there is actually an emergency unless we can contact you, so all 911 calls (even hangups) are treated as emergencies. Most of the time a person has dialed the phone again so we have to have an operator break into the line so we can speak with someone and confirm that there is no emergency. In the meantime a police officer is being sent to the address just in case it is an emergency. All of this could be avoided if you just stay on the line and say "Sorry, wrong number." 911 saves lives by saving time. Please dial 911 for emergencies only. The non-emergency number to the police department is 421-8700. We want you to use 911, but not abuse it.

Message From the Chief of Police About the Chief Johnny Cervantes was sworn in as Chief of the Casa Grande Police Department on April 2nd, 2013. He began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer for the Miami Police Department in 1988. He moved to the Scottsdale Police Department in 1990, where he served as an Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and ultimately as the Downtown District Commander before leaving to join the Casa Grande Police Department. His management experience has involved every aspect of law enforcement throughout his career. His duties include managing the largest municipal police agency in Pinal County with an annual operating budget of $12 million and a staff of 79 sworn police officers and 46 civilian employees. Chief Cervantes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with an emphasis on Latin American Studies from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Arizona. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, Leadership in Policing Organizations, is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and past 2nd Vice President of the Latino Peace Officers Association. He has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career. Message from the Chief: I was recently appointed as the new Chief of Police for the Casa Grande Police Department and I wanted to introduce myself and share the vision of the Department. “The Casa Grande Police Department is a leading, progressive, and unified agency of highly trained professionals who inspire excellence within law enforcement and partner with all people to protect, serve, and create a safe community.” This vision was born out of our strategic planning process and represents the hard work, knowledge, experience, and dedication of a Police Organization. Our primary mission is to enhance the quality of life and develop safer communities and in order to be successful; we must have the confidence, support and trust of the people who live, work, and play in our community. That is why we embrace Community Policing as our core philosophy and strive to maintain an open flow of communication and working partnership with the community and all of our strategic partners. In addition, the Department’s ability to identify emerging crime trends and patterns rests with our ability to utilize technology and information as quickly and efficiently as possible. The compstat process brings both these elements together and assists in identifying those trends. It allows for a coordinated response in a timely manner and provides an opportunity to prioritize the immediate crime issues ensuring that resources are being deployed where needed the most. In support of these efforts, the council has approved the purchase of a new Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System to replace a 20 year old system that is currently being used. We are also in the process of hiring an Information Technology professional dedicated to the challenging and emerging Public Safety technology needs of the future. Both of these acquisitions are vital to our compstat model and will allow the department to efficiently utilize our resources. Most importantly, I believe that we have the highest caliber of dedicated men and women in policing! With our vision, the strategic plan, the support from the city council, city leadership, and the community; the Casa Grande Police Department is in excellent position to meet the challenges of the future and perform at the highest levels.
Social Hosting Ordinance Beginning July 1, 2009 Casa Grande has a new ordinance impacting parties and large gatherings, especially if underage drinking occurs. 2. When a party of 5 or more people occurs, and police respond to a complaint for disturbing the peace, they can choose to 'tag' your house as having an 'unruly gathering', and the party host can be cited ($100). The owner of the property will also be notified by mail. If another unruly party occurs within 6 months, the party host can get a larger fine ($500), and the property owner can also be fined. Future offenses escalate the fines. Some landlords may choose to evict their tenants after the first unruly gathering posting. What can you do?
City of No. 1397.09.05 9.16.050 - Permitting or Encouraging Underage Drinking (a) No person eighteen years or older who owns or occupies any premises shall knowingly permit or fail to take reasonable action to prevent illegal consumption of spirituous liquor or drugs by any person. (b) A person who violates this section is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor. 9.08.010 - Unruly Gatherings Synopsis A peace officer may abate an unruly gathering by reasonable means, but not limited to, citation or arrest of violators and dispersal of the persons attending the gathering.
The premises shall be posted and any subsequent unruly gathering within 180 days shall result In liability for persons in attendance causing the unruliness or any owner, occupant or tenant, or sponsor of the event. The property owner of record will be notified by mail of the posting. Removal of the posting without court approval can result in a $100 fine.
