Residency Requirement

GIS Technician GIS Technician

Ideal candidate is an individual with experience performing responsible technical duties in providing the collection and compilation and maintenance of geospatial data and providing output graphic data to users.

SALARY:

$20.22 to $27.88/hour, paid bi-weekly with appointment normally made at entry level step; excellent benefits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Any combination of training, education or experience which demonstrates the potential ability to perform the duties of the position including an Associate’s degree or equivalent course work at a technical or vocational school in geographic information systems, civil engineering or closely related field, or two years of technical experience in working with geographic information systems. Valid State of Arizona Driver’s License.

- Knowledge of GIS applications such as ArcGIS, ArcInfo and ArcView; database software such as Microsoft Access, SQL Server or Oracle, Geodatabase and Geodatabase topology.
- Skill in reading maps, plans and drawings; skill in inputting engineering and land use data; skill in making reports and keeping records.
- Skill in researching county and city records pertinent to a GIS database; skill in determining, calculating, tabulating and summarizing data and information.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Maintains and updates the City’s databases using GIS computer aided drafting and other software.
- Scans, rectifies and digitizes data; builds topology, enters data attributes, checks for errors, makes required corrections; edits and refines GIS data; performs quality control checks to insure integrity of GIS data.
- Develops and maintains links between various databases.
- Collects, analyzes and interprets geographic information provided by internal departments and government agencies in print and digital formats.
- Provides technical assistance and customer support to City staff on a variety of issues utilizing GIS databases and internet and assistance to the public within scope of authority.
- Creates frequently used maps such as zoning maps, City district boundaries and special purpose maps for City departments and public agencies using GIS and AutoCAD software.
- Determines and executes the appropriate sequence of data processing tasks; uses established GIS software programs, commands and compilation methods to generate and utilize spatial overlays.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

NOTE: The City of Casa Grande does not reimburse for interview or relocation expenses for this position.
