Chief Scott Miller Completes Process for "Chief Fire Officer" Designation Chief Scott Miller Completes Process for "Chief Fire Officer" Designation

Fire Chief Scott Miller of the Casa Grande Fire Department has successfully completed the process that awards him the professional designation of “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). The Commission on Professional Credentialing met on July 18, 2011 to officially confer re-designation upon Chief Miller. Chief Miller is one of only 755 CFO’s worldwide.

The Chief Fire Officer Designation program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence in seven measured components including: Experience, Education, Professional Development, Professional Contributions, Association Membership, Community Involvement, and Technical Competencies. Chief Miller received his original designation on July 6, 2005. To maintain the designation, individuals must recertify every 3 years by showing they have continued to develop as a CFO in four areas: Professional Development, Professional Contributions, Active Association Membership and Community Involvement.

Chief Miller is the President of the Fire Chiefs Association of Pinal County, Chair of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security East RAC and Secretary/Treasurer for the Arizona Fire Chiefs Association. He has been a member of the Casa Grande Fire Department for 11 years and currently resides in Casa Grande.

The mission of the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) is to assist in the professional development of emergency service personnel by providing guidance for career planning through participation in the Professional Designation Program. The nine-member commission consists of individuals from the emergency services profession, federal and local government, and academia.
