The City of Casa Grande Recycling Division and the Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board are partnering to promote and celebrate “Earth Month” by providing a Design-A-Calendar Contest. The purpose of this contest is to create poster artwork to be used by the City of Casa Grande and Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board to promote community recycling and litter prevention. Poster art may be used in a promotional calendar, displayed on the sides of City Sanitation trucks, and used in public announcements and media publications.

Contest Eligibility: Third, fourth, and fifth grade students in Casa Grande Elementary School District.

Theme: The Design-a-Calendar contest will be used to promote the City theme “Casa Grande Recycles” and “Keep Casa Grande Beautiful”.
The poster art must reflect one or more of the following areas:

  • Environmental benefits of recycling as saving energy, saving land space, reducing air and water pollution, and preserving habitat for wildlife.
  • Identification of materials that can be recycled as plastic, paper products, cardboard, aluminum, and tin cans.
  • Illustrate ways and ideas to help keep our community clean and litter free.

Poster Requirements: Posters created by students must be their own original artwork. Copyrighted characters (such as Superman) or copyrighted clip art will not be accepted. Entries must be submitted on 8 ½” x 11” paper and be on landscaped layout only. Student name, school name, home address and phone number must be included on the back of the student’s entry.

Criteria for selection: Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be judged separately.
A total of 12 winning entries will be selected. Entries will be judged on the following:

  • Clear message conveyed by the text and artwork
  • The poster theme listed above is addressed
  • Creativity, originality and artistic quality
  • Visual clarity – easily read; and
  • Colorful

Awards: Selected winners will receive a calendar containing their artwork, a certificate of recognition, and a t-shirt with the artwork printed on it.

Ownership of Entries: All submitted artwork becomes the property of the City of Casa Grande, and may be displayed on the sides of Sanitation trucks, and/or reproduced in media publications.

Important Contest Dates:
March 1st 2012 through March 31st 2012
Entries must be received no later then March 31, 2011.

April 1st 2012 through April 14th 2012
Winners selected by City of Casa Grande Recycling Division and the Clean and Beautiful Advisory Board.

April 16th 2012 through April 30th 2012
Contest winners are notified and provided further instruction on recognition process and date.
