Community Groups and Individuals Once again the Casa Grande Play Task Force is hosting its annual GET UP, GET OUT, Day of “Playtopia”. We are looking for those individuals or groups that are interested in providing a Play Activity for youth and adults to enjoy. For those that provided an activity at the Play Day held this past March and those that attended the event . . . . Thank You. Your interest and support assisted us in reaching our goal of becoming a “Playful City USA”. We would like to increase that level of support for this PLAY DAY by increasing the number of community agencies or individuals assisting with this event. Our event will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at Carr McNatt Park. You can bring a game or activity of your own choice or you can host one of the games the city has. Some of the big hits from last PLAY Day include: bubbles, parachutes, and the obstacle course, wiffle ball, red light green light, line dancing, bucket brigade and much more. Kids today build internet sites instead of constructing forts in the woods. Music piped into earphones has replaced listening for the sounds of bird calls and frog croaks. Cell phones and Facebook are more efficient than two cups on a string or flashlight signals. Childhood has changed. A growing body of research is telling us that time spent outdoors in play is critical to children’s physical, social and emotional development. Research also shows that while time spent outside with parents, teachers or other adults is valuable, it is also important that children be encouraged to play on their own, to explore and simply be in the outside environment. This unstructured time fosters creativity, emotional well-being, independent learning and problem solving; it lets kids connect with the place in which they live and the larger environment on which we all depend. It's time to give our kids a break from the TV and the computer and get them back outside! The Casa Grande Play Task Force and its supporters invite you to Leave No Child Inside. Together, we can promote a culture in which children enjoy and are encouraged to play, and as a result are healthier, have a sense of connection to their place, and become supporters and stewards of the community. Get involved and help a child have the opportunity to PLAY. Please send in the attached registration form to the Parks and Recreation Office (404 E. Florence Blvd.) or fax (520) 421-8678 or contact Caryl Chase @ cchase@casagrandeaz.gov to let us know how you would like to participate. This event is provided with the support of APS and University of AZ. Cooperative Extension Office
